Meet our new Executive Director
Dr. Dawn Tracey Brandes
Dawn is an honours graduate of The University of Kings College/ Dalhousie in Theatre Studies. As well she has an MA in Drama from the University of Alberta and a doctorate in Theatre and Drama from Northwestern University in Chicago.
Dawn is an experienced Humanities teacher and recently completed a 3 year position as a Faculty Fellow in Humanities at The University of Kings College. In addition to her new duties as director of Halifax Humanities, Dawn is also a faculty member in the Fountain School for the Performing Arts at Dalhousie.
In addition to her academic and teaching qualifications, Dawn has also had extensive experience in the non-profit sector as a volunteer with Ronald MacDonald House, Big Brothers - Big Sisters, Autism Nova Scotia, Frontier College, and the IWK "Read -to- Me" program.
Dawn brings to Halifax Humanities a deep commitment to Humanities education and social justice, as well as excellent leadership and administrative skills honed through her work as a theatre director and stage manager and through her time working in the Registrar's office at The University of Kings College. Dawn has also been a dedicated volunteer with Halifax Humanities for the past year, as a teacher and writing tutor, and in classroom support. The Board of Directors of The Halifax Humanities Society is delighted to welcome Dawn as Executive Director of the society.
